Riparian Rehabilitation — Guanaba Catchment

Stabilising the bank required treating weed pressure before any planting — reversing that sequence would have lost the native recruitment already present.

A Show Cause condition under DA COM/2024/383 required documented riparian rehabilitation along a degraded creek corridor. Weed pressure had reached a point where native regeneration along 185 metres of creek bank was no longer possible without intervention. Targeted removal, jute mat erosion stabilisation, and sequenced native revegetation were implemented and documented to satisfy the Gold Coast City Council Rehabilitation Management Plan.

Woodstock Farm — QTFN Partnership

Establishing 1,000 natives in the right ecological sequence allowed the RE 12.3.16 community to reintroduce itself — planting without the framework would have created maintenance dependency.

In partnership with QTFN, 1,000 locally sourced native trees were established at Woodstock Farm — reintroducing the vegetation communities of RE 12.3.16, an endangered ecosystem type that has lost more than seventy percent of its pre-clearing extent across South East Queensland. That loss is irreversible without deliberate intervention. Every species selected matched the site's Regional Ecosystem and local genetic provenance.

Guanaba Forest Edge Restoration

A heavily vine-infested subtropical forest edge had reached a tipping point — Cat's Claw Creeper loading was pulling canopy structure down and blocking light to native understorey. Sixteen months of staged, sequential control across 2.2 hectares turned the canopy back without machinery or soil disturbance. The vine load was removed incrementally, allowing suppressed natives to reactivate beneath.

Skene Road, Wolffdene

Two dwellings within a Koala Priority Area required AS3959-2018 compliant Asset Protection Zones — BAL-29 rating. The site carried significant native canopy that a standard APZ approach would have cleared. Manual methods were used throughout: no machinery, no broad clearing. Full BAL-29 compliance was achieved while retaining the native structure the koala corridor depends on.

Cossart Road, Rathdowney

Dense lantana was suppressing koala habitat recruitment — targeted control at the gully edges released native regeneration without disturbing the intact structure above.

A 0.35 hectare gully and creekline in core koala habitat was carrying dense lantana and invasive pressure that was actively suppressing native understorey already beginning to recover — the system was trying to come back and the weed load was preventing it. Targeted removal opened light access and allowed that suppressed recovery to continue. The work was sequenced to minimise soil disturbance and protect the koala habitat throughout.

Mt Nimmel Road, Neranwood

Systematic weed removal across 3.84ha was sequenced to protect advancing native recruitment — the program tracked recovery rather than repeating treatments.

3.84 hectares of private remnant vegetation on a Scenic Rim property was delivered under the City of Gold Coast Nature Conservation Assistance Program. Ochna, Lantana, and Singapore Daisy were reducing native recruitment across the slope and dam margin. Structured bush regeneration reduced weed pressure and allowed native structure to re-emerge — with ongoing monitoring scheduled across the program period.
